In order to downgrade your Shimano Steps bike, you need an Android device and access to the “Data” folder. Since Android 14, there are some limitations to access that folder, these instructions explain how to do it.

To complete these instructions, you will need your bike and an Android phone. A PC is NOT necessary. The entire process is done with just your phone and your bike.

1) Uninstall E-tube if you have it installed and install this version of E-tube on your Android phone. If it shows a security warning, it is normal. Select “install anyway” or similar option.

2) Open and close E-tube.

3) Install in your Android FV File Manager from this link in Play Store

4) Download from this document files for your motor model. If you don’t know what your motor model is, you can connect your motor with E-tube or eTuning and check motor model in the information.

5) Use FV File Manager to uncompress and copy files to Android/data/com.shimano.etubeprojectmobile.droid.phone/files/FW/

6) The bluetooth receiver is on the screen of your bike. Keep the phone still as close to the screen as possible during the update. Do not move your phone, do not close the app while it is updating and do not do anything else with your Android device.

7) Open the E-tube app. Connect to the bike with E-tube. It will ask you to
update the firmware, update it. It will indicate that you are updating to a
higher version, but you are updating to the firmware file that you have
downloaded.
